Captain’s Thank You

Many of you will be aware that my Captain’s charity this year, jointly with the Lady Captain Chris Dixon, was St Francis School in Lincoln.

On the 15th December Chris and I, together with the President Pete Musson, presented a cheque for £1500 to the school which they will use towards the cost (approximately £6000) of sensory equipment to be used by the younger children.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all the members who have supported our charity throughout the year by playing in our charity day competition and buying raffle tickets etc. St Francis School is very close to our hearts as Chris’ grandson Aaron is a pupil and we have seen how happy he is there and how dedicated the staff are.

Captains’ Charity 2011

Today Captain Tony Thornley & Lady Captain Chris Dixon presented a cheque for £1500 to the St Francis School Fund.

The monies raised during the year in support of the Captains’ Charity for 2011 were a result of events and raffles held at the club in 2011, and supported by members.

Seniors AGM

The Senior’s AGM was held at the club yesterday (14th December 2011). The Senior section continues to grow at the club, and hopes to have another good year in 2012.

2011 Seniors Captain Mr Stewart McCracken passed the baton to Mr Geoff Brown for 2012, with Mr Bob Taylor becoming Vice-Captain. Mr Len Charlton retired as Seniors Secretary after 13 years in the role. Len’s contribution during that period is greatly appreciated by all members. Len is succeeded by Mr John Smith, who was welcomed by all the seniors as he takes on his new duties. The club welcomes John, and offers its best wishes for his future in the role.

Final Juniors Training Session of 2011

George Wilkinson will hold the final training session of 2011 this weekend;

This will be a 1 hour session on Saturday the 3rd December, starting at 10am.

Training dates for 2012 will be posted at a later date, please keep watching!

Junior Team Friendly Competition Results

The 29th October saw a number of our juniors play a friendly match under the watch of coach George Wilkinson, results as follows;

Team development is progressing well, and should stand us in good stead for our first competitive year in 2012. Our first confirmed match will be at Woodhall Spa on 16th April on the Hotchkin course.

End of 2011 Season

With the final match at Louth on Wednesday, 28th Sept., the Seniors’ 2011 season came to a close. It was a very successful and well supported season and Captain Stewart McCracken (ably supported by Vice-Captain Geoff Brown) should be congratulated on achieving the final result of 34 matches played, 18 won, 2 halved and 14 lost. Needless to say, the 14 losses were all away fixtures and it was very creditable to actually win 3 away matches.

The 2012 season is eagerly awaited and it is worth noting that Captain-Elect Geoff Brown is looking for a volunteer to be his Vice-Captain. This matter will be brought up at the Seniors’ AGM on Wednesday, 14th Dec. but it is never to early to volunteer. So, all you lads who have the best interest of a thriving Senior Section at heart, let’s be hearing from you!

GB & Ireland Hall of Fame Victory for CPGC!

Congratulations to Trevor Robinson, the 2011 Winner of the Great Britain & Ireland Hall of Fame Seniors Golf Championship, held over the weekend in Liverpool.

Trevor earned his victory winning by 2 shots over 36 holes, 18 at Leasowe GC, followed by 18 at Royal Liverpool Hoylake GC.

Again, congratulations, and we wish Trevor much competition success in the future!

Canwick Entry Confirmed for 2012 Juniors League

Canwick Park has a confirmed place in the Lincolnshire Juniors League for the 2012 season. Our team will consist of players selected from our juniors line-up by recently appointed coach George Wilkinson.

The team will compete in the South & Central area league, along with teams from Carholme, Lincoln Torksey, Market Rasen, Welton Manor and Woodall Spa.

Hall of Fame Championship 2011 (Great Britain and Ireland)

Congratulations to Trevor Robinson, who after winning the Canwick Park competition, has triumphed at the Midlands regional final. This victory means that Trevor will be representing the club at the championship finals at Royal Liverpool GC over 36 holes at the end of the month – one of the twenty players from across Britain and Ireland competing.
